Holiday Inn Express Downtown Detroit

Very enjoyable stay. Staff were very friendly. they brought us up 2 extra beds even though the hotel was sold out. very friendly staff.

The entire service team was excellent, starting with an early check-in and helpful front desk staff. The doormen was equally as accommodating, arranging for a cab for us. Lobby was small but comfortable. The hotel was under construction but it never interfered with our stay. The staff was awesome. The breakfast was okay but wasn't restocked when I arrived with an hour left in the service. The fire alarm went off at 4AM and after trudging down 5 flights of steps and standing on the curb of Michigan avenue for a half hour we were told it was a false alarm but no apology or compensation was offered for the major inconvenience. ...read more

Overall I was very disappointed with the hotel. I called and made a request for a double bed, when we got there, there were none available. I was told to check back later. As I got to my floor, there was a lady and several children getting on to the elevator to leave since the pool was closed and they were there for a pool party. She told me she had a suite, so I decided to go downstairs and see if there was anyway I could be upgraded. The lady at the desk told me the suite I was inquiring about was a single, however they had one available on one of the floors that they were painting on. She gave me a key and had me go take a look. After returning and telling her I'd take the room, I was informed that it wouldn't be a free upgrade, it was going to cost me $109 more per night.
